Educate Youth on National Tree Day!
The Government of Canada passed a private member's bill to proclaim September 21 as National Tree Day. “By passing this motion, the House of Commons will ask Canadians to spend just one day reflecting on the link between their lives and that of the tree,” said Royal Galipeau, M.P. Ottawa-Orléans who presented the motion. “Canadians will dedicate trees, plant trees, learn about trees and appreciate the historical impact the tree has had on Canada’s economic success as a nation.”
The Canadian Nursery Landscape Association (CNLA), together with its provincial partner SNLA, will be celebrating National Tree Day on September 21, 2012. We will be branching out across Canada, teaching youth about the many great virtues that trees offer the environment – from clean air and shade to beautification, nature habitats and more!
CNLA and SNLA encourages the membership to work with the schools in your district to teach students how to plant a tree and about the positive environmental benefits that this tree will provide for years to come. The member nurseries, garden centres, and landscape contractors will donate trees for planting along with their time to educate and excite students about trees.
September is the start of the new school year, a great time for hands-on learning and a perfect time for planting! Contact your local school early this September to request their participation to make a profound and positive impact on the environment in the schoolyard and community.
